As long as family and sexual violence continue to affect our community, Centre Against Violence (CAV) will be here, working alongside as many people as we can who need us. While we wish the violence would stop, and we didn’t have to expand, the reality is that these issues are still very much present. Recent crime statistics show that family violence rates across the Ovens and Murray region are increasing and remain significantly above the state average. Shocking figures show that family violence rates in Benalla sit 71% above the state average, Wangaratta has increased to 49.3%, and Wodonga at 61% above the state average. And that’s just what’s reported.

“Although these statistics are alarming, our team is committed to offering a safe space for those affected. That’s why we are expanding and announcing the addition of multiple new roles at CAV,” said Robin Gardner, Acting CEO of the Centre Against Violence. “These roles are essential in ensuring that we can continue to meet the increasing demand for our services and expand our capacity to help more people.”

Our new positions will enhance CAV’s ability to support individuals affected by family violence and sexual assault. These roles will strengthen case management services, provide a compassionate first point of contact for those seeking help, and offer leadership within our crisis accommodation team to ensure high-quality, responsive care.
